One of your sentences has stayed with me: "Distance complicates things, and concentrates them." I think there's a great deal of truth in that. When we can't rely on physical presence, conversation becomes the bridge. Curiosity carries more weight. Listening becomes more intentional. In many ways, distance invites us to discover one another from the inside out.
BTW—I love the map. It tells us where places are. It doesn't tell us how close two minds can become. There's a special beauty in that.
I'm not opposed to those elements because I've had a history of doing it the other way around, and while it's got me to here, it's left me alone, time after time, so trying to see/do things from a different perspective has merit ...
