Happy Canada Mark, and everyone! I loved my time in Canada when I lived in Toronto, and you are spot on - always willing to help, getting the job done without fanfare or a need for attention, and making me feel welcome as the Odd American.... Enjoy the day and all it represents - and know that most Americans are appalled at Trump's attitudes towards our great neighbor.

Thanks .. nice to hear from you. I'm not as confident that most Americans feel that way. I hear media watchers messaging that 'it's going to turn at the midterms', but I would ask, can you wait that long? He's a train that is off the tracks, so every day is dangerous. We welcome tourists and immigrants alike - come when you can, stay as long as you like!

I hear the same "midterm" issue and agree, we cannot wait that long. People are taking actions here and more people are speaking out. And elections here and there are changing the landscape. We have an election here in Arizona to replace a representative who died. It's these elections that are indicating change is on its way. And if this crazy terrible budget bill gets voted in you will see massive action by people as they lose their healthcare, their homes and their federal assistance.

I have visited Canada a number of times and each visit made me want to live there: The beauty of the land, the charm of the citizens. Now, particularly, I think about moving to your country, though the logistics would be so difficult. An important piece to write, Mark, as Trump's stance on Canada and freedom here in the U.S. takes our country in a direction that creates despair for me and many others.

Mary - thanks for that note, and on behalf of the whole country, let me offer the invitation to visit me, stay as long as you like! I'm working on a post-Canada Day piece ... I'll publish it tonight or tomorrow.
